Why an independent advisor?

No corporate structure, sales quota, script, or policy restrictions. My business is tailored to your needs, your passions, and your goals.

As an independent agent, I have access to a broad range of companies’ policies to ensure that I find the best fit for you (see Services page). In addition to my resource access, independent agents are legally obligated to act in your best interest. I am significantly more involved; from initial interviews to policy activation, I will be your familiar face and ‘go-to’ consultant for a lifetime. Periodic review of your policies, goals, and trajectories is of top priority to ensure that you are always receiving the best, personalized coverage and advising possible.

As I explored the industry from various perspectives, I came to the conclusion that in order to best serve my clients, I would need to be an independent agent. A slight sacrifice to my own security for significantly better product potential for my clients was a no-brainer. My success will come from yours.

Insurance agents are either employed directly by insurers or are independent representatives of specific insurance companies, categorized by:

  • Captive agents: represent a single insurer or are bound by arrangements to represent a single insurance entity. The agent only sells that company’s products for a commission.

  • Independent agents: hold contracts with two or more insurers. Business is placed through managing general agents (MGA) who facilitate application and commission.

DS Life & Health Insurance Brokers is an independent brokerage through Financial Horizons MGA.
